• Physical Education

Your student will have Physical Education once a week for 45 minutes.  The Kindergarten through 2nd grade curriculum consists of learning skills in order to be able to play individual sports and team sports later on in their elementary career.  These skills consist of moving in an open space, passing, throwing, catching, kicking, and trying to start developing the ability to use team strategies in order to be successful.  The 3rd through 5th grade curriculum consists mostly of team and individual sports, including Table Tennis, Capture the Flag, Basketball, Indoor Baseball, Frisbee Golf, Ultimate Frisbee, Team Handball, Lacrosse, and much more.  These games and activities will help develop their skills, not only in sports, but that of teamwork and sportsmanship.

    Rules in Physical Education:

We will follow the main school rules of Being Respectful, Responsible, Safe, and Kind.  This applies to the equipment and space we use, to the teacher, and to each other.

    Other important items:

Please make sure to wear good shoes and clothes on your PE day.

It may be hard, but do the best you can, and you will get better.  You're not supposed to be good at everything. That is what school is for.

    Grading:

Students in grades K-5 have the opportunity to earn a 3 in physical education by coming to class with appropriate clothing and shoes, participating in all aspects of class, and showing completion of the physical education standards taught. This level 3 means that the students are performing where they should be according to the standards taught that quarter.

If the student's grade is lower than a 3, it will be due to lower understanding or implementation of standards taught, or  behavior that causes a student to not demonstrate mastery of the physical education standards.

If a student earns a 3 in class, he/she may choose to participate in other physical education activities outside of class that can bring the grade to a Level 4.  If a student achieves a 3 in class work for the quarter, they may turn in: 2 physical education assignments that meet criteria to earn a 4.

Please be aware; all physical education assignments must show higher levels of thinking, and the STUDENT's extra effort.  Please understand that if your student is not earning a 3 in class, based on their participation, behavior, and learned standards; turning in these extra assignments will not boost their grade to a 3 or 4.

All physical education homework must be completed and turned in before or on the deadline date.  I have to have something in my hand that verifies the activity and its connection to the physical education standards.  NO late work will be accepted, as I must turn in my grades on deadline.

Homework is due on or before the following dates:

    September 23rd, December 9th, March 3rd, May 5th

Going above and beyond is hard work, but it can be lots of fun too!  So, be creative and innovative in what you turn in - show me what great things you can do!
